Are you having trouble getting the dream world in your head onto the page? This service is for you! The Developmental Edit includes an extensive read-through of your manuscript with changes at the character, chapter, and story level. In this big-picture edit, I will review your outline, make large-scale suggestions, propose changes, and offer questions to help you strengthen your story and characters.
An outline and chapter summary of each chapter of your manuscript will be included in this service along with an abbreviated Style Sheet that includes treatment of proper nouns, dates, characters, character descriptions, and more.
I will read your draft in Microsoft Word, use Track Changes to make changes throughout the manuscript, and use the Comments feature to leave you questions, comments, and feedback.
Although some grammatical issues may be corrected in the process of The Developmental Edit, this service does not include any copyediting.
How It Works
When you reach out to me, I will send you a client welcome packet and questionnaire where you can share the first 1500 words of your manuscript.
Once you have submitted the questionnaire and I have had a chance to review it and perform a sample edit on the first 1500 words, I will send you a quote for the service.
If the quote is agreeable, you will sign and return it to me along with your full manuscript and outline (if you have one) saved as Word documents. A 50% nonrefundable deposit is due at time of booking.
Once I receive your manuscript and outline, I will get to work reading the materials and building up my notes and questions. I will use Track Changes to make sure that all of my additions, deletions, and comments are recorded. I will ensure that your story idea is sound, that the ideas are well-developed, that your characters are three dimensional, that your chronology of events makes sense, and much more! During this work, I will create an updated outline, chapter summaries, and the abbreviated Style Sheet.
After I add commentary and make changes to your manuscript, I will return the manuscript to you marked up with Track Changes. Please respond to all queries within Word and approve or reject any changes I have made. A 25% progress payment is due at this time.
When you return the manuscript to me with your answers, feedback and changes, I will then perform a final sweep of your manuscript and ensure that all of my materials are ready for delivery to you.
At the time of completion, I will send you a final invoice via email. Upon final payment, I will deliver your completed Developmental Edit, outline with chapter summaries, Style Sheet, and Cover Letter.
